    Product Description:
My dad has been making hunting and fishing themed folk art for years. He has always sold it locally (wherever they have lived) and we finally decided to list some of his folk art online. Please understand these are not mass produced or imported items. My dad makes each unique folk art piece from hand and they are usually fairly big and heavy. These Coot decoys, for example, measure 6" (height...from the top of the head to the bottom of the body or base) x 12" (length...from the tip of the beak/bill to the end of the body)each and the pair of decoys weighs nearly 4 lbs. As I mentioned in the listing title, my dad only uses aged and weathered old barn/fence wood and while these materials add to the rustic look of each piece, this old wood is usually a lot heavier than what you will find on newer, imported items. Note...for my dad's decoy offerings (such as this one), the old wooden box is used to get the decoy off the ground for picture taking only and is not included. My dad will often use one of these boxes when he takes pictures of decoys and I just want to be clear the offering is for just the decoy.
One comment that has come up relates to how we ship these unique items. I just want to confirm my dad spends a lot of time individually wrapping and packing each of these folk art pieces to ensure safe transit. I have a ton of boxes and packing materials at our shop and I've watched him take more time then he would probably care to admit packing these offerings. When we have talked about this, he always says that because he spends so much time making each unique piece, he just wants to make sure it arrives safely to its intended destination. Please understand I am not exaggerating here, as I have never seen him spend less than an hour packing one of these offerings (and often times he will spend at least a couple of hours packing the larger items with multiple pieces). The time adds up because he will usually cut-down/alter boxes and packing materials specifically for each of these folk art offerings, which is a slow and tedious process.
If you have any questions, just let me know and I will talk to my dad (and get you an answer).

Note to international customers regarding shipping...
We apologize to those that feel some of our international shipping charges are too high. We only charge actual shipping rates, but once an order exceeds a certain amount, we hesitate to use the least expensive US Postal Services First Class International service. We feel this way, because this service is not trackable or insurable...so more risk of loss. We prefer the US Postal Services Priority Mail International service for more expensive orders, because this service is trackable at USPS.com and insurable...so less risk of loss. Unfortunately, this service is more expensive, especially for smaller/lighter packages, relative to the First Class International service. We are sorry about these higher shipping costs, but hopefully our notes help to explain why this is the case.
Note to international customers regarding customs...
We also apologize to those that feel their country import taxes, duties and brokerage fees are excessive. As a small US business, we are required by customs' laws to declare each order as a retail sale. Additionally, the declared order value must be equal to total store purchases and/or winning auction bids (less any shipping costs, as these are not considered in the declared value). As a result, each customer will be responsible for paying his/her own country taxes, duties and brokerage fees, which will be collected upon delivery. Again, we apologize for these additional costs, but we cannot afford the penalties and fines that come with breaking customs' laws...so we have to strictly abide by them.
